Ulla Carin Lindquist was a fit and active mother. She had a
husband and 2 young sons when she was diagnosed with ALS, amyotrophic lateral
sclerosis. One of the decisions that she made was that she wanted her family to
be aware of her disease and to be able to cope once she was gone. One thing
that I thought that was very big and neat that she did was she was able to
control a computer with her nose and was able to actually write a book about
her journey. She lived less than a year from the time she was diagnosed and so
her journey was less than what is typically seen. The doctors told her that
when she starts to notice her tongue twitching that her time would be getting
closer to being over, so she did know that it was coming. One of the things that
the occupational therapist worked with her on was energy conservation so that
she would be able to do more things on her own without the help of her friend.
