I realized what all the steps that go into being a good OT
and making sure that you are client centered. One thing that really helped me think
about what all an OT addresses was the occupational profile assignment and looking
at the clients roles, habits, rituals, and interest. I didn’t think about all
of the things that go into the decisions that we make and the way that we live
our life. I also liked that we spent time going over the OTPF and focusing on
what it meant for our profession. Coming in, I didn’t know what all our scope
of practice was or what all we could do. I had heard terms like ADLs but had no
clue what that mean. So part of the take away for me was being able to
understand what the OTPF says and where to find relevant information for my
career. From the activity analysis
assignment and the lab, I really learned what all small pieces there are that
go into the things that we do that could be worked on in therapy.
Lastly, one of the my takeaways from this course was the
fact that the client is always the top priority and that making their
experience the best it can be is what we should be striving to do. I always
knew the client is the one that is most important, but I was able to see this with
how Professor Lancaster taught this course and always made sure that she heard
our opinion (course debrief and class time to say what we like or didn’t like.)
Well said, Sarah. Thank you for the feedback and for your efforts in this course.
